Frequently
Asked Questions

Still have additional questions? Send me a message!

    • Simply give me a call at 248-800-8848 or send me an email at amy@linkinhealing.com to schedule an initial appointment.

    • I will work hard to respond within 24 hours of receiving your call or email.

    • After receiving initial information on what services you are interested in, general treatment goals, assessing for “good fit” and verifying any insurance information/discussing plan for payment of services we will schedule your first appointment.

    • When awaiting my return call or email-please take a few moments to write out days/times you could consistently set aside dedicated time, free from other commitments, to fully engage in the therapy process. I schedule my appointments in “time slots” meaning you will likely meet at the same day/same time as our initial appointment for subsequent sessions.

  • The only way to know for sure is to have a session. Most people have a good sense of whether I am the right professional to help them within the first few sessions. However, I have tried to provide you with information on this website, my Psychology Today profile to give you a sense of who I am and how I work.

    • All counseling sessions are conducted via a secure and easy-to-use telehealth platform (similar to Zoom). I will send you the link to set up your client portal after the initial appointment is scheduled.

    • I am not providing any in-person counseling at this time; however, this may become a possibility in the future.

  • Although there are many advantages of online counseling (it’s convenient, effective, cozy), it’s not right for everyone. Online counseling (teletherapy) works best for those with mild to moderate symptoms (not people who are suicidal or in crisis), are comfortable using technology, and have a quiet, private place to have their sessions.

  • Unfortunately, no! I am bound by state licensing regulations, which require us to be licensed in the state where our patients are physically located during the sessions. This means that I can only meet with you if you are physically located in Michigan at the time of your appointment.

  • I provide counseling for adults, teenagers, and age-appropriate children who reside anywhere in Michigan.  My expertise is in anxiety and stress, depression, and trauma.

    • Please complete all paperwork sent to you via email within 24 hours of your initial appointment.

    • Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can have privacy and minimize distractions during your session.

    • The initial session will last about 60 minutes.

    • This is the time for you to start to share your story (at whatever pace or level you feel comfortable doing so). I will ask various questions to explore your past and present hardships and to try to understand the reason you are seeking therapy.  I will begin discussing your goals and understanding what you would like to work on. We begin to establish a relationship that will become the foundation for working together.

    • The first meeting is a time to go over any questions you have about the therapy process as well.

    • Approach each session with an open mind and a willingness to engage in self-reflection and growth. Remember, therapy is a collaborative effort, and your active participation plays a crucial role in the therapeutic process.

    • Therapy sessions last 45-60 minutes. We'll start by understanding your concerns and work together toward your goals at a pace that feels right for you (usually on a weekly or bi-weekly basis).

    • I recommend reflecting on any significant events, thoughts, or emotions you may have experienced since our last session. Jot down any topics, questions, or concerns you would like to discuss.

    1. Prioritizing your mental and emotional well-being and healing is an investment in yourself. Mental health treatment can have life-long lasting impacts on quality of life, relationships, and happiness.

    2. I accept health plans from major insurance providers- BCBS, BCN, and Cigna. I will submit claims on your behalf to your insurance company and I am legally obligated to follow the outcome of the claims. Ultimately, your insurance company determines the cost of your treatment and it is your responsibility to cover the cost of your services in the event that your insurance company fails to provide payment for services. This means if your insurance company unexpectedly fails to provide payment, you are responsible for paying out-of-pocket for the services you received.

    3. Cash/Private pay options and sliding fee-scale.  If you do not have insurance or choose to opt out of using your health care insurance.

    • Initial Assessment (1st appointment) - $225

    • Subsequent session for duration of 53-60 minutes: $185

    • Subsequent session for duration of 38-52 minutes: $165

    • Subsequent session for duration of 16-37 minutes: $145

    • If I am out of network with your plan, I can offer you a superbill (or detailed receipts). You can then provide this to your insurance company for possible out of network reimbursement.

  • No, I am not a medical doctor. Many of my patients find medication is helpful, but many of them also progress well in therapy without medication. If you want to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, either contact your primary care physician or a psychiatrist. If you are already taking medication, I can coordinate care with your doctor. I can also help you find a referral to a psychiatrist.

  • I require 24 hours-notice of cancellation or you will need to pay for the appointment. An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency. It’s important that we meet consistently in order to make progress.
